Hi, I’m Russell tedrow.

I love God, family, friends, and God’s creation. Like most farmers, I work full-time and farm on the side.

Growing up, we always raised a cow or two for beef. After marriage, I learned the ins and outs of caring for cows from my father-in-law as we owned a commercial cattle operation. In 2020, my wife and I bought Tedrow Valley Farm and started our registered black angus herd and black walnut tree operation.

I aim to care for our cattle and land while including the environmentally friendly methods that are practical for both us and our herd.

Our Approach

We handle our cattle with the goals of keeping them healthy and calm. We don’t run the cows and we don’t reduce the herd’s grass, hay, or feed availability to cut costs.

Feeding The Herd

The cattle are rotated to fresh grass daily throughout the year. The farm’s cow per acre ratio is kept small and grass is stockpiled to make it through the winter. They are fed a small amount of grain daily as a supplement. Hay is on hand as a backup and for an unexpected circumstance.

Vaccinations

We currently vaccinate with 7 way Clostridium vaccine and Triangle 10.

Calming my Herd

We work to keep the herd calm every day. We walk amongst the herd as we move the fence for the next section of grass and pet them when feeding grain.
